If you haven’t been to see it already, whats wrong with you? The new Avengers film is a massive box office hit taking in over $1Billion dollars thus far. In 10 days its made over $350million, and its likely to continue in this fashion. The question is now however, will it be able to take down the titan that is Avatar as the highest grossing film of all time. At only 19 days old it made the afore mentioned $1Billion, so its looking more and more likely.

The difference between the two however is that Avatar was shown in cinemas for nearly a year (which like Titanic is how the film grossed so highly) which Avengers is somewhat unlikely to do.

But even with all that, is the superhero movie going to need a miracle to take down Avatar?

More like really long legs.

James Cameron‘s Avatar, the reigning box-office champ, both domestically and worldwide, took in its billions. In its first few weeks it didn’t take in what was even close as to what was anticipated. It took another three months for the 3-D epic to experience something as substantial, but routine as a 50 percent drop in business.

The Avengers was down 50 percent this past weekend, even as its $103.1 million Friday-Sunday blew away the domestic box-office record for a second-weekend gross. (The former record-holder? Avatar.)

In any event, its looking like Comic inspired films are they way forward in this industry, with hits like Spiderman and Batman series grossing huge amounts as well. But we shall have to wait and see if this Marvel film will be able to knock off the titan that is Avatar.

Here’s a look at where The Avengers stood through Sunday, per the latest BoxOfficeMojo.com stats:

Domestic Total (10 days in theaters): $373.1 million (18th place all-time)

Overseas Total (19 days in theaters): $628.9 million

Worldwide Total: $1.004 billion (12th place all-time)

The British Film Festival retuned to TV screens recently for the first time in 5 years, with its launch of buffpresents, screening 4 films previously shown at BUFF (British Urban Film Festival). Among these four films was the directional debut of Aml Ameen with his film ‘Drink, Drugs & KFC’. Aml states that he has a clear vision about the fiture of the urban British film, and he wants to lead it ‘having been a part of its birth’ with the film Kidulthood. Coincidentally perhaps then, that at the same time as this on BBC3, Kidulthood itself was being shown.

This was a huge home run for Aml, as it meant he was on 2 different channels at the same time, appearing in three films. Not bad you’ve got to admit. This then lead to a heavy night of online social chatter through twiiter among others, really bringing to light this years BUFF awards in October.

In any event, it will be interesting to see the figures on the ratings for these shows, as well as how much hype will build come the awards.

Love, Agent Slowbear

Jennifer Hudson’s star status played no role in the jurors decision to convict her former brother in law to a likely life sentence for kill the Oscar winners mother, brother and nephew. The man was convicted after a jury heard about cell phone records that placed Mr Balfour in the vicinity of the house where the killings took place at the time of the murders. William Balfour commited the crime after not being able to reconcile with his estranged wife (Hudson’s sister). Tears were reportedly streaming down the face of Hudson as the verdict was read, and then shared a smile with her sister moments later when it was given as guilty. As the verdict was read, Jennifer Hudson, sitting on a fourth-row bench, bit her lip, tears streaming down her cheeks. A minute later, she looked over at her sister and smiled.

The Hudson sisters released a statement late Friday extending a prayer to the Balfour family, saying “we have all suffered terrible loss in this tragedy.”

“It is our prayer that the Lord will forgive Mr. Balfour of these heinous acts and bring his heart into repentance someday,” they said.

The occurrence was not only devastating to sea animal lovers, but also a concern to all those who fear the Blue Whales extinction.

Experts want to know make the plight of the blue whale publicly known, in order to help prevent these kind of accidents happening in the future.

With as little as 5,000 of the gentle giants left in our oceans, let’s hope this won’t be a regular occurrence.

Here are the extremely sad images taken by photographer Tony Wu.

I was never a huge fan of the group, but many of my friends were and I respect what they accomplished, so it really is a massive loss in the music industry.

The cause of his death was not released. Yauch had battled cancer since at least 2009.

The Beastie Boys, known for hits such as the 1986 single ‘(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!),’ were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame months before Yauch died. The group did not attend the ceremony due to his illness.

When you think of religion, your mind probably doesn’t jump to Estonia. Well, there’s actually a good reason for that. As it turns out, Estonia is quite likely the least religious country on Earth, a poll shows where only 20% of Estonians answered yes when asked if they were religious.

From first looks of Tallinn, you’d believe that it was the other way around and that all of Estonia was extremely religious. Spires decorate the old town, bells ring out on Sundays and song emanates from churches as visitors walk in and out. A closer look reveals that many of these visitors are tourists. As many of 90% at once church had travelled from the Netherlands to see the country. Although the Lutheran Church is the largest in Estonia, it accounts for only 13% of the population, Rev Tuhkru says.

There is, however, a more telling statistic: fewer than one in five Estonians say any religion plays an important part in their lives. It is a trend visible at every level in society. Even in schools religion does not feature on the curriculum in its own right. This really is quite different from many other countries in the world which is an interesting fact. In British schools religion is quite often a mandatory subject on it’s curriculum.

We’ve all heard of things like bullet proof vests/body armor, but now it seems there is a market to make sure all of our things are bullet proof. This could stem from such things as the riots in and around central London last year, where mobs of youths instilled fear in not only local communities, but all of England. Or it could just be the world wanting to go to the next level unnecessarily to show home much we pride we take in our material goods. Check out these 4 bullet proof items that will protect your most valued things.

Bullet proof iPhone case

Never worry about losing your iPhone in a gun fight ever again. Forget your body, obviously this is the most important thing to protect. People will go to long lengths to protect their beloved iPhones, which happen to be one of the most ‘nickable’ items of modern society. Therefore when Japanese technology manufacturers, Marudai, unveiled its ‘indestructible’ steel case that can resist a .50 caliber round, instead of creating outrage, the world of tech embraced the creation as the ‘perfect protection for those planning to recreate the infamous iPhone vs gun’ videos on YouTube, whereby some crazy guys shoot at their iPhones and other gadgets just to ‘see what happens’

Pretec i-Disc Bullet Proof

In the underground world of a London gang being able to boast that your USB stick is bullet proof is likely to be worth a touch of credibility. But for those of us living a non-criminal existence would there be any point in owning a Pretec i-Disk Bullet Proof? I mean what are the chances of your USB stick being shot at? Asides being bullet proof, data transfers with the tiny I-Disk are apparently super-speedy and as well as getting mobile lock software for locking down your PC or laptop, the i-Disk contains a Security Zip for wrapping up precious data in password-protected armour – Now that’s more like it!

Bullet Proof undies

Now this one I understand, it just makes sense and they deserve this kind of security. According to Tech News Daily, US marines recently requested for 27,500 pairs of “ballistic undergarments” – bullet proof undies! made from a special anticmicrobial double weave silk, the ultra-tough underwear will help protect soldiers and marines from low-angle explosives associated with landmines and other explosives.

Bullet Proof nail varnish

This one especially is clearly ridiculous. Oh, but you know girls and their nails. Whilst nail polish can hardly be considered as being a gadget, the ludicrousness of there being such a thing as bullet proof nail varnish makes it worthy of a mention. To avoid those ghastly chips from occurring on your nails before you’ve even left the house, ‘Nutra Nail’ is apparently one of the strongest nail polishes available. How? Because its made with Kevlar, the patented material used in bullet proof vests.

Although nail polish that glides on smoothly weaving a powerful shield that resists nails from splitting, cracking, peeling and breaking, will cost you, a whopping £12.95 bottle!
