Jay Z produces broadway play about Fela Kuti

Love him or hate him, Jay Z is using his fame and influence (at last) to actually educate the world about something of great importance and substance. He’s joined forces with Will Smith to help produce a broadway musical, portraying the life of the late Nigerian multi-instrumentalist, political activist and Afrobeat pioneer who died in 1997. He wasn’t afraid to challenge the status quo and call out the corruption he saw in the government.

Music for the production ‘Fela’ has been arranged by the Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, who have previously contributed to albums by Foals and TV On The Radio.
